Benjamin Moore alone offers 150 different colors of white and this may make a simple painting project seem complicated. White is the most popular color for exterior and interior painting and not surprising considering it is a safe, neutral tone that goes well with other colors. The easiest way we have found to choose a white color paint is to break them down into three main categories, (warm, neutral, and cool). This provides a starting point and reference to quickly use when choosing the correct color of white. So, this will help you choose the correct white paint when you want to get it right. A big component in choosing the right color white is natural lighting. First, consider how much natural light is available in the area you are painting and the different times of day the light changes. Natural and artificial lighting may make the colors on your walls look completely different. We recommend applying a sample of white paint to the area you will be painting and observing it throughout the day to see how it changes. In the morning it may look completely different than in the evening light. This bit of time may make a huge difference to the final results you are looking for. Thus, considering natural lighting is key when you want to get it right. Consider the fixed space in your home. These are things like, flooring, cabinets, countertops, and fixtures. All the things in your home that do not change easily. You are wanting to create harmony in your living space. For instance, if you have darker wood or flooring, then you may want to use a cooler tone of white color paint. Cool whites have undertones like blue or gray. We recommend cool whites when you have a lot of natural lighting in your space. If you have blue or green furniture or bedding, then this is an excellent time to choose a cooler white and create harmony in your living area. If there is a lack of natural light, then we do not recommend a cool white. For example, warm woods and oak flooring will compete with these cooler elements and create disharmony in your space. However, if you have lighter wood or flooring, then you probably want to choose a warmer or neutral color tone of white paint for your home. Warm whites typically have a bit of cream or yellow to them. If you want to describe your space as really warm and comfortable, then choosing a warm white is going to be your best bet. If you have a cream color couch, then a warmer white will work best in this case. We do not recommend using a warmer white when you have concrete or tile floors. Also, if you have a lot of blue or gray in your space, then we do not recommend a warm white. You want to create harmony and have the tones work with each when choosing the correct white paint. Pay attention to the other colors in your area because they will play off of each other and help create the vibe you want. Neutral white is an excellent contrasting white and provides a crisp and bright white color. This is usually the color people think of when they think about white paint. If you are using black, for instance, then this is an excellent contrasting color to use. The only time we do not recommend a neutral white is when you have white furniture. If you put an off-white fabric couch next to a crisp neutral light, then it may bring the off-white color out more than desired and make your couch appear almost dirty, or dingy. As mentioned, there are three main tones of the color white, (cool, neutral, and warm white). Let's consider the incandescent lighting you may have in your home and the same principle applies here. Most of us have changed the lightbulb in our homes before. Lightbulbs come in three main colors, cool, neutral, and warm. Each bulb is beneficial in different areas of your home. Soft white or warm white is the standard color and gives off a warm, yellow-colored light. On other hand, cool whites give off a cool, blue-gray-colored light. Lastly, neutral light gives a bright crisp white colored light. Hopefully, this provides a starting point with some references to use when choosing the correct white color paint for your area. At the end of the day, it is only paint, so just relax and paint on. Therefore, if you are overwhelmed with all of the white colors, then just try a few and they can always be painted over. Yelp is a publicly traded company headquartered in San Francisco California with an enormous advertising and marketing budget. Yelp is a bottom-line company that leverages local small business owners into a marketing submission by controlling the front page of internal search results. Just because a company or companies are on the front page of a search result, does not imply they are a company consumers should trust. Correlation does not imply causation. Therefore, if you are looking for excellent communication and service, then it is better to communicate directly with a business rather than trust a large third-party platform corporation. The fact of the matter is, Yelp, Angie’s, and Home Advisor constantly call and harass small business owners that will not work with them. The sales force uses aggressive and misleading tactics to boost revenue and financial statements for investors. The companies will use unfair practices to raise revenue from the advertisements of the competitors of such non-paying companies. The company’s review system is unreliable and has been infected by fake reviews by external users, such as false positive reviews submitted by a company to promote its own business. If you are under the impression that a large corporation cares about your painting job, then you are being misled. We are hearing stories from customers involving work trucks driving by their homes at odd times and hours after submitting a work request through a third-party platform like Yelp, Angie’s, Porch, and Home Advisor.
